I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Greg to reflect on his remarkable career, the lessons he has learned along the way, and what he sees ahead for healthcare cybersecurity.

For more than four decades, Greg has helped shape our nation’s approach to cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, and public-private collaboration. From serving as the first Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to his leadership of the Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council, his impact on our industry and national security is difficult to overstate.

Our conversation spanned his work laying the groundwork for critical infrastructure protections and frameworks through his time in the financial sector, including the evolution of cyber risk, the connection between cyber safety and patient safety, systemic and third-party risk, emerging technologies like AI, and the importance of trust and collaboration.

One message in particular stood out to me.

For healthcare leaders, cyber risk has to be considered alongside every other enterprise risk.The potential consequences extend far beyond technology to patient care, operational continuity, financial performance, reputation, and the ability of our organizations to fulfill their missions.
